The Pier shipyards development is a 20.3 acre parcel of formerly industrial land at Lower Lonsdale that introduces a unique new piece of public realm to North Vancouver. Rich in maritime heritage features and industrial elements, this new piece of urban park attracts people to the water's edge thus increasing the public presence along the waterfront and contributing to the vitality of Lower Lonsdale.

Formerly the location of the Burrard Dry Docks, the land now comprises residential, commercial and institutional spaces. Transforming the former industrial site to a high density, mixed use development creates an urban destination at the waters edge. Featuring a renovated pedestrian-friendly working pier extending into Burrard Inlet as well as small pockets of accessible shoreline, people are given the opportunity to experience the dynamic and ephemeral nature of the water's edge. Design intent was heavily informed by the maritime history of the site and as such, a multitude of heritage features were preserved and integrated into the design. The project successfully injects life into the former industrial lands of lower Lonsdale by providing a unique waterfront experience, one that tells the story of its past, while celebrating the possibilities for the future.
